2009 Ponderosa & Sam Jones Fire Pics Part 2

I took these ten photos on a fire chase on August 2, 2009, with my then-girlfriend to initially check out the 458-acres Ponderosa which had started the day before along Nacimiento-Ferguson Road in the Monterey District of the Los Padres National Forest. This fire was underwhelming and while checking it out from the cantonment of Fort Hunter Liggett we viewed from a distance and listened on the scanner to the start of the 3,468 acre Sam Jones Fire. It was started by grenade training and took off like an explosion through the thick, dessicated grass and brush. The fire threatened to escape the base and run into the State Responsibility Area (SRA) and did a little bit but didn't significantly do so quite fortunately. I left most of the photo-taking of this fire to my then-girlfriend who took some amazing shots and posted them here at the time. Quite unfortunately, she took all her work off our blog after we broke up so we no longer have the benefit of viewing those spectacular images. The first seven images were captured from along Jolon Road. The final three images were captured from two locations along Interlake Road.
