"But Daddy... we ARE the traffic!" ~ Wise Young Child
This gem of existentialist wisdom, this "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings" moment flashed into our universe when a small child spoke to his father cursing the highway traffic in which they were stuck. This has always stuck in my mind as one of the most insightful comments ever made by a human being. I'm glad the father took note of it and shared it with Paul Harvey on whose radio program I heard it back in the 1990's. We all would do well to listen to our young children just as they listen to us. In some regards they are wiser than we just as we in some regards are wiser than they.
