During a break in our journey to Santa Rosa, CA, for this weekend's Gem Faire we stopped at a roadside rest area along Interstate 280 just south of San Francisco and I had the opportunity to take a good look at Upper Crystal Springs Reservoir. It is formed by the damning of a rift valley of the San Andreas Fault. This reservoir has been the cistern for San Francisco's water needs since before the 1906 Earthquake & Fire when the pipes sending water from this reservoir to The City were severed leaving San Francisco high and dry.
