Picture of the Day - My Morning Petrified Wood

In 2008 I found this petrified wood limb segment outside Joseph City, AZ. Upon my return home I used a wet grinder to polish both exposed ends of it. The specimen now adorns my backyard picnic table.

  1. Look at that baby. Wow. You should take close up pics of it so I can make a nice collage of it for you. Nice aggie. NICE.

  2. I was going to be mean and say something about the scratches, but no.
Beautiful piece of wood. I am envious!

  4. Lin, I'll do that... Ken Rogers on LA Rocks is suggesting that, too... and he's a professional photographer.

Rob, I'm not a lapidarist so this is my first project of this sort other than polishing some petrified whale verts with the same wet grinder... and they sold like gangbusters. The scratches actually look less significant when you see the entirety of the polished surface. I'll not only retake the photo but I'll at some point perfect the polish job.

    Suzan, thanks!
