Grapevine Fire & Mill Fire

Today while driving home from Portland, OR, I passed by the ongoing Sites Complex which started yesterday on state responsibility area lands in Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit of Cal Fire as well as of the adjacent Mill Fire located just to to the west on the Mendocino National Forest which started day-before-yesterday. I arrived during the 10 AM hour just as these fires were getting active for the day. The Mill Fire began this day sized  at about 2,500 acres but by the end of today's burning period it has grown to about 10,000 acres. The Grapevine Fire (the only remaining uncontained component of the Sites Complex) began this day sized at about 1,400 acres and by the end of today's burning period has grown to 3,518 acres.
View west near Maxwell, CA, from Interstate-5 of the Grapevine Fire as part of the larger Sites Complex of fires of which the others are contained. Smoke from the Mill Fire burning on the Mendocino National Forest to the west is obscured from this view by the smoke from the southern extent of the Grapevine Fire.
View northwest near Dunnigan, CA, from Interstate-5 of the Mill Fire (left) and of the Grapevine Fire (right) as both fires begin to really take off in the late mid-morning period. Both photos by Kim Patrick Noyes (all rights reserved).
