My 1980s Sex Icon Gone

This morning Carrie Fisher of Star Wars' Princess Leia fame died from her heart attack aboard a flight from London to Los Angeles several days ago from which she stopped breathing and never regained consciousness. A generation of hormonal adolescent men, especially the geekier ones like me, found her captivating and her wearing her slave bikini outfit in Return of the Jedi raised her to the level of generational sexual icon on par with Farrah Fawcett's 70s bikini poster image. To many people like me, her character's appearance and personality embodied all the things we desired; physical beauty, an older woman (she being a young adult relative to our still being kids), intelligent, spunky, and courageous. Since her youthful Star Wars run I have continued to appreciate and respect her and follow her life's journey through its ups and downs including her struggles with self-esteem, living in her famous mother Debbie Reynolds' shadow, drug addiction, and bipolar disorder. I seem to have a thing for hot, crazy, emotionally wounded women. I feel profoundly sad about this celebrity death much more than most despite my having never met her. He's Back!

Earlier this evening I went alone to Park Cinemas in downtown Paso Robles and watched the new Star Wars movie Rogue One on its opening night. I enjoyed it and feel it is a solidly good movie, but I believe I liked the previous offering in the franchise a bit more, to wit, The Force Awakens. Anywho, there were a number of things to like about this movie, most significantly, Darth Vader is back and with a vengeance and voiced by James Earl Jones as God intended. Jones is aged 85 and so I'm glad they did at least one more movie with this greatest ever of all movie villains with the right voicing. Image courtesy of Disney Corporation (all rights reserved).

Emo Kylo Reviews Rogue One - Trailer Two

The second of probably three trailers for the next Star Wars movie which is currently still in post-production  (Rogue One) was released in recent days and can be viewed in the player immediately below.


An unknown clever party constructed a funny faux film review of this movie by the fictional character Kylo Ren of the most recently released movie in the franchise, The Force Awakens, which can be enjoyed in the player immediately below. If one did not watch the previous film and perhaps more importantly is not a fanboy of the franchise then this will probably not hold much meaning.


While we're at it we might as well take yet another gander at the first trailer/teaser for this movie which can be viewed in the player immediately below.

Pillar of Light's Pattern of Darkness

A friend of mine cued me into this rather haunting Star Wars video tribute to Luke Skywalker's lightsaber and its tragic path of destruction wending through the lives of so many people over the course of three generations and several wars.

How The Force Awakens

Yesterday, I found this rather compelling short film showing off but some of the special effects in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is accompanied by an extremely beautiful, compelling, and haunting score. Crank up the speakers and go full screen with the vid! Note: the haunting accompanying track is "I Love You" by Josko but it is a remix and I know not who remixed it.

My dear friend Teddy W. told me about and then shared with me this wonderful short film which makes an interesting point relating to that thing which is all the rage right now, to wit, the latest Star Wars movie franchise installment entitled Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Last week I shared the hilarious Putin vs. Stormtrooper meme HERE not realizing this upgraded one was also out there. Meme of the Week - Putin vs. Stormtrooper

This week's viral images of the weasel riding the back of a woodpecker HERE have led to the most clever and quirky memes I have seen in quite some time. In case you don't recognize the human figure that is Russian Kleptocrat-in-Chief Vladimir Putin Photoshopped from his ridiculous bare-chested horseback riding image onto the back of the aforementioned weasel riding on the back of the aforementioned woodpecker. Photoshopped into the image to appear to be in hot pursuit is an Imperial Scout Trooper riding a speeder bike. There are more memes of this out there as you can see HERE. Sith Lord Bonds With Stormtroopers

I first encountered this a couple of nights ago and fell in love with it immediately. If one is not familiar with the Star Wars movie franchise the humor of this will be lost on them.

Star Wars Bohemian Rhapsody

My friend "Beachgoat" found this and despite not liking Star Wars or much else in modern science fiction nonetheless liked this enough to share it on my Facebook wall. It marries the movie franchise with Queen's iconic and defining masterpiece "Bohemian Rhapsody" the very first song to have what could be considered a genuine music video in the MTV sense of the term. Now I share it with you because I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Stormtroopers - A Post-9/11 Parody

I came across this clever and funny spoof of both Star Wars and 9/11 in the pop cultural context of how the attacks were remembered and discussed subsequently. In case you missed it I posted a similar-themed spoof a couple of years ago entitled "Stormtroopers - A 'Cops' Parody".

George Lucas In Love

George Lucas In Love has long been one of my favorite comedy short films of all time given its cleverness and my being an unabashed and unapologetic Star Wars fan going back to my childhood. If only I had kept those action figures... and left them in their original packaging. Anywho, there seems to be something about this movie franchise that induces creativity in others given one of my other all-time favorite comedy short films also relates to this general topic.
