Powerhouse Mushrooms

I do not know whom took this image but I found it circulating on Twitter earlier this evening and I share it with you. It was taken from a jet and shows twin towers of mushrooming convection columns of smoke and hot gasses coming off of today's big blow-up of the Powerhouse Fire in Canyon Country in the region of the Angeles National Forest around Lake Hughes and Green Valley en route to points further afield in that vicinity, particularly the Elizabeth Lake Road corridor.

  1. Almost like a nuke caused mushroom cloud. And yet oddly beautiful although I hesitate somewhat to call it that since is denotes mayhem and destruction. Allison

  2. Allison,

I think the nomer fits exactly. Fires in California are unique in that they cause major mayhem and mega destruction. I'm proud to be a member of the California Disasters group, as it is one of the few online groups that manage to help folks stay safe as these monster fires eat away the landscape, often taking homes and lives with them. We may not can put out the fires, but we can get people and fur families out of the way of them.
