Bill Burr Is The Best

Tonight I once again find myself unwinding from my long day by watching Bill Burr. Just as Amy Schumer has been my favorite female comedienne in recent years, so Burr has been my favorite male comedian. I first became aware of him when he appeared on the iconic television series Breaking Bad at which point I looked him up and started watching him on Youtube. In the above player is a great but short sampler of his work that runs just under ten minutes. If you like this then go watch his hour-long sets on Youtube.

Picture of the Day - Eberle Sunset

Tonight I worked at pick-up party at Eberle Winery with my buddy Mike. We were gifted with the privilege of working while watching perhaps the most beautiful and dynamic sunset I have seen all year. The sky kept changing as the angle of the sun changed and interacted with clouds at various degrees longitude and various altitudes and types of clouds.

Picture of the Day - A-Town Home Fire

I was at the UPS Store in Atascadero today when an Atascadero police car screamed headed south-bound on El Camino Real. This struck me as interesting and I wondered what was happening. A minute or so later another siren approached following the same course and it turned out to be chief of Atascadero Fire Department. I then proceeded to leave the business having accomplished my tasks there and so headed south on the main drag of town to see if I could find out what was going on. Around the time I reached Curbaril Avenue I espied a dark header somewhere to the south and headed that way. Upon approaching Santa Rosa Road I saw an ambulance and two more Type-1 fire engines pulling from that street southbound onto El Camino Real. I also noted the growing traffic jam in that area and took evasive action to get to where I could see the fire and not be stuck in traffic. I feared it was a horrible fiery traffic mishap on the northbound side of Highway 101 but it turned out to be a fully-engulfed single family mobile home in the neighborhood between El Camino Real and the freeway. I have read unofficial reports of there being a smoke inhalation injury to a resident of the home who was rescued by a passerby. Photo by Kim Patrick Noyes (all rights reserved).

Tall Ship In Town

There is a tall ship visiting Morro Bay at present and on the way home from school today my buddy Blake and I took the time to check it out before it leaves in a couple of days. The 1542 replica galleon San Salvador is visiting to raise money for the building of the Morro Bay Maritime Museum.

Picture of the Day - Another Cow Poly

Today I found another Cow Parade cow art piece on campus, this time near the Mustang Market next to Building 11. As you may recall I did parking at the Cow Parade event across town at the Madonna Inn a few weeks ago. Earlier this week I spotted another one of these on campus which I discussed HERE. Picture of the Day - Cal Poly Picture Day

Today was group picture day for the 2016-2017 Cal Poly Single Subject Teaching Credential Cohort. While waiting for the group to get settled into position for the image I shot this of my wingman Blake and I. Photo by Kim Patrick Noyes (all rights reserved).

Death's Head Storm

I intended to post this sooner but got cramped for time this week. Long-time meteorologist Stu Ostro tweeted this image last Tuesday. It is an infrared satellite image of Hurricane Matthew as it slammed into Haiti earlier this week. That is strikes the eye as looking like a grimacing skull head is an odd and ominous coincidence and happenstance given that island nation's dark history and association with voodoo and zombies. Thus far the storm has killed nearly 900 people, most of which were citizens of Haiti. Note: for those unfamiliar with storm structure, satellite imagery, or geography, this image is a measure of heat as viewed from orbit and the eye of the skull is the eye of the storm and the eye is just coming ashore at the southwestern tip of the island of Haiti. The "teeth" of the skull are actually towering cumulunimbus storms poking up above the adjacent clouds.
